YOUR NEW PIECE
At Arthur Kaplan, we take quality very seriously. Therefore, we offer a warranty on all jewellery items against manufacturing defects. This excludes all damage caused by normal wear and tear as well as neglect, abuse or modifications made by another jeweller. It is the wearer’s responsibility to take care of their jewellery.
Avoid hard knocks and bumps to your jewellery as this can dent or damage any jewellery item. It is advisable not to wear jewellery while playing sports, swimming, gardening, showering or performing household chores. Care should be taken not to expose jewellery to chemicals that can discolour or leave a residue which will make your jewellery look dull. Most hand lotions and perfumes may contain chemicals that can tarnish your jewellery.
All jewellery items require occasional cleaning to maintain their beauty and lustre. Arthur Kaplan stocks a range of cleaning products to suit every type of jewellery piece.
All jewellery, regardless of the type of metal, will obtain fine scratches from day to day wear. These can be polished out at the workshop.
KNOW YOUR MATERIAL
9ct & 18ct White Gold – All our 9ct white gold and 18ct white gold jewellery is rhodium plated to give it that beautiful lustre. The rhodium plating will wear off over time and this can be redone at the workshop. White gold jewellery can be cleaned with gold cleaning liquid.
9ct & 18ct Yellow Gold – Our 9ct yellow gold and 18ct yellow gold jewellery can be cleaned with gold cleaning liquid. Simply follow the easy instructions on the bottle and your yellow gold items will be restored to its original beauty. The same can be done with your rose gold jewellery pieces.
Silver – All our silver jewellery is rhodium plated to give it that beautiful lustre. Silver jewellery can get tarnished as a result of oxidisation due to oils from hand creams which is normal. Silver can be cleaned with a silver cleaning liquid. Silver rose gold plated jewellery should not be cleaned in jewellery cleaner as this will remove the rose gold plating. These can simply be cleaned with soapy water and a soft cloth.
Diamonds – Diamonds can become dull over time due to everyday wear. Our gold jewellery cleaner can be used to clean diamonds.
Platinum & Gemstones – Our gold jewellery cleaner can be used to clean platinum jewellery and gemstones.
Tanzanite – Tanzanite jewellery is not recommended for everyday wear especially as Tanzanite is a soft stone and it can be damaged if knocked against a hard surface or if dropped. Tanzanite cannot be cleaned with jewellery cleaner as this can damage the stone. It is best to rather have Tanzanite jewellery cleaned at the workshop.
Pearls – Pearls should not be cleaned with any jewellery cleaner but only with a soft cloth or special pearl cleaner. They should be stored separately in a box with a soft surface.
Titanium – Titanium is a hard substance, but it is still prone to scratch depending on the way it is worn. Titanium rings can be cleaned with a soft cloth.
Ceramic – Ceramic rings can break if they fall on a hard surface like on floor tiles. Ceramic is scratch resistant but not indestructible and should also be worn with care.
Tungsten and Zirconium rings can be cleaned with a soft cloth.
